xiros® plastic ball bearings

More information about xiros® plastic ball bearings I need more information about xiros plastic ball bearings in terms of materials, types and benefits.
Online configuration for xiros® plastic ball bearings I know the environmental variables of my application and would like to calculate the service life of my ball bearings, among other things.
Submit an enquiry for special xiros® ball bearing parts I need an individual, tailor-made special part that deviates from the DIN standard for my specific application.

The rust-proof alternative to metal ball bearings

xiros plastic ball bearings according to DIN 625 require no lubrication, are corrosion-free (when using glass or plastic balls) and operate extremely quietly. This makes them a cost-effective alternative to metallic ball bearings. Made from a mixture of tribopolymers, the iglidur material plastic components are light, resistant to chemicals and non-magnetic. This ensures safe use in medicine, packaging, food processing, drive technology and many other industries. Whereas the plastic of our xiros ball bearings consists of a mixture of basic plastics, solid lubricants, fibres and filaments, the balls are typically made of glass, plastic or stainless steel. The balls are housed in a cage, which can consist of our own xirodur B180 material, polyamide (PA), polypropylene (PP) or polyether ether ketone (PEEK).

What is a ball bearing?

Ball bearings belong to the family of rolling bearings. Moving between an inner and an outer race, rolling bodies reduce rotational friction and absorb radial and axial loads. In most applications, one race is locking and the other is attached to the rotating assembly such as a hub or a shaft made of steel. When a race rotates, the balls, which are fixed in place inside a cage, also begin to rotate. Because the balls roll, they have a much lower coefficient of friction than two flat surfaces that slide against each other. Due to the smaller contact surface between balls and races, the ball bearings tend to have a lower load capacity for their size than other kinds of rolling bearings. However, they can tolerate certain misalignments of the inner and outer races.

What are the advantages of our ball bearings?

  • 100% lubrication-free
  • Lightweight
  • Corrosion-resistant
  • Low maintenance
  • For temperatures up to +150°C (depending on material)
  • Smooth operation
  • High media resistance, suitable for washdown
  • Metal-free (due to the use of glass and plastic balls), therefore non-magnetic
  • Electrically insulating (or ESD-compliant)
  • FDA-compliant (depending on material)
  • Predictable service life

"Smooth operation is crucial"

Sören Meissner, Design Engineer at Krones AG "Decisive for us here is the smooth running of the ball bearings in the guide rollers. In the past, we used metal bearings here. However, this was not light enough, sometimes making the complete roll stop and the label band would slip over it."
